Private Beginner's Belly Dance Classes! Learn belly dancing from an inspiring and patient teacher!

I'd like to offer private belly dance classes for anyone who feels like they need more one-on-one instruction, privacy, patience and a teacher dedicated to spreading the joy of the dance! You'll get to work at your own pace, wear whatever you like, and be encouraged to find the beauty of the dance in your own way.

I absolutely believe in the spirituality of belly dancing, and see it the way it was meant to be seen- a beautiful act that praises life and strengthens women's bodies.

The dance will help with self-esteem, body image, flexibility, moods, and over-all well being.

Wear comfortable yoga clothes or dress up for each lesson- it’s up to you!

The schedule is absolutely flexible, and I will do my best to work out a time that works best for you- lessons can be anywhere from 30 minutes to two hours- again, it's up to you! The price will vary as to how long you want your lesson to be. To give you an idea, an hour-long lesson will be $15. However, trades can be made and I can always knock down the price if you need it. My goal is to inspire you and help you find belly dance as wonderful as I do.

Learn to relax into the art and the beauty of the dance and enjoy yourself!

New Flamenco Class- At Halandas in San Jose-Read message below

I hope that you are enjoying the beginning of Summer!

I am taking a survey regarding your interest in enrolling in a Tuesday night Flamenco class at Halanda Studio. I have been offered the time slots from 4:00-8:00 pm on Tuesday evenings......

I will be offering a Kid's Flamenco Dance Movement Class w/castanets {ages 6-12}- 4:00-5:00 pm, Latin Fusion Dance {ages 13 to adults}-5:00-6:00 pm, Beginner Flamenco Technique-6:00-7:00 pm and Beginner Intermediate Flamenco Technique-7:00-8:00 pm.

I would need a minimum of 5 students enrolled in each class in order to offer the classes, to cover the high rental rates and gasoline expense of driving from the East Bay.

Students who are enrolled on an ongoing basis in the Saturday classes would be given a 5% discount on monthly tuition fees.

The new Tuesday classes are targeted to start on September 9th thru the end of the year.

I would appreciate hearing from each of you regarding your interest in the Tuesday classes and please spread the word!

Hi Ladies,
Just wanted to invite you all over to the Santa Cruz side of the hill for a fun little Hafla on the 28th. of June. Their blacklight Hafla in January was so much fun, I just had to ask to invite y'all for this one! Aruba and Omar will be hosting a super fun Zydeco bellydance Hafla at their home in Soquel. This isn't a performance, it's just a bunch of people getting together and dancing. A real house party Hafla! But with some Zydeco and Red Elvises stuff thrown in for fusion fun. Omar brews some really great beer too. I hope at least some of you guys can make it over. If you have questions or want a ride up to their house from Capitola, just give me a call (831) 241-0740.

It's a Zyde-Belly Hafla this time!
We'll be playing Middle Eastern music with some
Cajun/Zydeco mixed in also, maybe a little Red
Elvises...you never what you'll hear!

June 28th, Saturday 7pm til who knows when!

We'll provide Howling Frog Brews (Brad's home
brew) and Persian Tea (BYOB if you want something
different)
Bring a small snack to share, drums, zils, and think
Mardi Gras when you're planning your costume (masks,
boas, beads, full costumes...whatever you feel happy
wearing).
Oh, and those of you who have dance items for sale,
please bring them for the flea market in the dance room.

If you're traveling south on Soquel heading
towards Aptos, turn left onto Main Street. The first
"Y" you come to is when Main St becomes Glen
Haven ROAD...stay on this road for about 3 miles. Watch for
the yellow line in road to go away, you're about 3/10
mile from our house. You'll see the large Kennolyn Camp
sign in front of you...the road will turn to the right and
IMMEDIATELY on your left there will be a small road going
uphill. This is Glen Haven RIDGE Rd. We are the 3rd house
on the street.

Bean Scene Pics

Hello all you lovelies.

Thanks to all of you who were out there supporting the local belly dance scene and cheering us on at The Bean Scene. I, for one, had a blast. I have posted some pics from the Tribal Moon performance on my profile. I'll let Kathy tell me what she wants here on the official TM tribe before posting anything here. Please pardon the not-to-great photography. My husband had an odd angle to work from and he didn't want to use a flash so there are only a couple taken with the flash on. Whitney took some photos, though, and she said she would send up a flare once she has those ready for public consumption... There are rumors of a possible YouTube video in the future.

To my fellow dancers.... Thank you for the magical experience. I love you all.

Healing the Belly Article in HipCircle

I too dumped a guy after he 'lost interest' when I had gained 10 lbs, from 128 to 138 (like the author of the article). And like the author it took me a year to walk away from the relationship and straight into a belly dance class.

DDF photos sent

The CD of photos from Desert Dance has been sent. This was the first event I shot with a new camera, so I was still going through a learning curve and the image quality may not be up to my normal standards, but there were a few I liked and hopefully you will have some that you like as well.

I'm sorry it took far too long to get this mailed out, the good news from all of this is I now have a very robust and portable backup solution so if this happens again recovery will be a couple of hours instead of several weeks. I still have more clean up to do from the recovered data, but this was the last of the critical stuff to get done.

New photos and fire performance event this weekend in SF

Hi everyone,

Ok so I finally put up a couple of photos on my profile this morning...including a couple from Shiva Lounge and a couple from last night (though I wish I'd gotten more pics last night! Darn!). They aren't all that great/exciting, but I don't have access to my hard drive at the moment, so I only posted whatever I had laying around. It's a start! For some reason, 99% of my Shiva Lounge photos are of gorgeous, lovely backs. Think it has something to do with the light sensor on my camera....oh, well! If you do check them out, please send me a friend invite while you're there so I don't have to feel so lonely anymore...sniff, sniff...

Also, I wanted to let everyone know that I posted an event that I hope you will all check out--it's a fire dancing performance this Saturday up in SF. Kristina Canizares (of the Nekiya) will be dancing along with lots of other superstars, including the world's best fire dancing teacher, Belva (aka Mystress Fyre), who is throwing the party as a fundraiser for herself (details in the post). I hope to see you all there!

Along with a full day of stage dancing, four workshops with some of the regions most respected dance instructors, we're pleased to offer dancers an exciting opportunity - Studio photos by not one, but two of Northern California's best dance photographers.

The photographers will be offering photography sessions for soloists, duets or troupes, and you can bring multiple costumes and do several mini- sessions throughout the day. This is a great time to get photos for your website. For students new to the dance, promotional photos can seem like a daunting chore, so we have made it easy by bringing the photographers right to the party. Tell your students, troupe members and pull out your best and newest costumes!

So I just found out about Hafla at the Hoover, and was so excited that I could take a workshop with Kathy.... then I realize that the time of the workshop is *exactly* the same time as a seminar I am teaching (on an entirely different subject - helping the family dog prepare for a new baby) in Palo Alto. It seems like every time one of you Tribal Moon ladies teaches a workshop, it's at a time I can't do!

I'm going to start getting paranoid about it!

Anyway Like you needed another reason to come, we have just confirmed a special performance by The Indigo, Rachel Brice, Zoe Jackes & Mardi Love for the opening night of performances on Friday night!!!

Kajira is soooo excited about this that she can hardley keep it in....

Jim Boz Workshops & Dinner Show December 10th

Raks & Rolls Belly Dance is proud to Present Jim Boz for two amazing workshops & and Gala Dinner Show. Come meet and learn from one of the few MALE Belly Dancers in the United States.

Sunday December 10th -

10:00 - 12:00 PM - Dynamic Drills & Techniques will be taught with a Sizzling Choreography!

1:00 - 3:00 PM - Master Workshop - Advanced Isolations & Superior Layering Presented in a HOT DRUM SOLO!

The evening gala show will be held Sunday, December 10th at Negeen's Restaurant in Campbell. Doors open at 6:30 PM and the show starts at 7:00 PM.

Enjoy performances by Jim Boz, Alexandria, Tatseena, Una and more. Limited dance spots offered to Dancers Attending a Workshop and the Dinner Show, please inquire for spaces available.

Int./Adv.: 11am to 1pm

Basic (10am-11am) Only: $12 advance, $15 door
Int./Adv. (11am-1pm) Only: $25 advance, $30 door
Both Levels: $30 advance, $35 door

9/8 rhythm and basic footwork will be covered the first hour for those new to the dance, or wanting a refresher, followed with two hours of faster-moving Intermediate/Advanced level with new steps and gestures. Students may take either or both levels.

Tribal Bible Sold Out!

I know that it's not about your troupe, but Noey is in the "inner circle" so she gets a special post...

There are no more new “Tribal Bibles” for sale to the public.

Kajira Djoumahana would like to say mahalo for the support and the overwhelming positive response to her book.

She had a great time writing it and hopes that those of you who have one will have many hours of enjoyable and educational reading.

She would also like to thank all the people "in" the book for sharing their thoughts, ideas, skills, passion for dance & life, photos, love and their support in her quest to write "The Tribal Bible"

So many wonderful memories are flowing through Kajira as she comes to term with the end of an era.

The copies that are left are reserved for dancers who take teacher training with Kajira because she feels that people who learn to teach her BlackSheep BellyDance format should have the book so they know where her insight, passion and history of the dance came from.
